Jumpers are my favorite spiders. They don't just sit around in a web all day. They go out and hunt , stalk , and kill actively. I love to watch them at work in my garden. Go little hunter killers , go! This is an amazing photo.

For high magnification shots like this I use a Canon MP-E.

Oh, i see, the "queen" of all macro lenses! :P

Can you use this lens handheld? Or it is a tripod only? At 5:1 they say is a really dark lens.

I mostly use it handheld with an external flash. Handheld in natural light wouldn't work too well. It definitely gets darker at 5:1, but under most conditions I don't have any problem focusing the lens.

I love jumping spiders. I've been doing some research on my own of jumping spiders in Japan. Too bad there are no Phidippus species in Japan.. too cool. There are some pretty cool species though.

Yes, we are pretty lucky to have Phidippus species over here. I don't know if I've seen any photos of Japanese jumping spiders before.
